The millennial in me gets giddy with every aesthetic coffee shop that opens its doors in Langley. A coffe shop or cafe is more than just getting good coffee or fresh pastries. For a working mom like me, going to a cafe is my escape – from my chores at home or tasks at work, a space to be creative when I’m feeling stuck, or the perfect setting to catch up with friends and loved ones.

My favorite cafes are those that have a curated space and a theme that is executed well in either its building facade or interior and whose menus offer something different than the average cafe. Altogether, the combination is potent and I feel it justifiable to spend way more than I would if I ordered coffee or scones at one of the big chains.

JJ Bakes (Walnut Grove, Langley) – https://www.jjbakescompany.com/

Tropical interiors. Jungle animal scultpures. JJ Bakes is known for their delicious cupcakes and cakes and now that they have a storefront, they have inventive drinks such as strawberry basil matcha latte and unique are their ube, turon, lattes.

Archr Cafe (Willoughby, Langley) – https://archrcoffee.com/

Industrial modern yet homey vibe near Carvolth, Langley. I believe Archr is known for their cookies, but they have a variety of pastries, sandwiches and smoothie bowls to order from. And of course, great coffee! I got their acai bowl which was super yummy, served in a cocounut bowl, which I think is really cool.

Cafe Mellow (Willoughby, Langley) – no website as of writing

Right across Carvolth, with high ceilings, an open layout, Cafe Mellow has a beautiful modern space with lots of seating. They serve a variety of cafe items – sandwiches, salads, pastries, coffee, coffle and ice cream. I tried their basil pesto croffle (croissant + waffle) and it was delicious. I paired it with their vanilla oat latte, which is one of their beststellers.
